The Bear Creek model railroad is a prototypical train layout of the Cotton Belt and the Southern Pacific railroads from Texarkana, Arkansas to Pine Bluff, Arkansas set in the Fall of 1956. Both railroads are featured on the layout as the Southern Pacific acquired control of the Cotton Belt in 1932 and operated it as a subsidiary. The towns of Texarkana, Lewisville, McNeil, Stephens, Camden, Fordyce, Rison, South Pine Bluff, and Pine Bluff are some of the active towns for passenger and freight on the route. The route also had a lumber mill with logging, cotton and tobacco fields, an iron/steel plant, a huge quarry, a coal mine, and farms raising cows and pigs. The Bear Creek Model Railroad is a 30-foot by 30-foot double-deck layout with both freight and passenger operations. There is a large circus depicted on the layout and the layout has lighting for night-time operation.

This is a very intensive switching layout with a mainline and branch line. Trains are run using switch lists from JMRI and using phones as throttles (Digitrax throttles can be used). Four yards will handle switching by 6 axle diesels while 4 axle diesels handle switching to all of the industries.
